It was a relatively easy fix and the video instructions on this site provided were helpful. The one piece that wasn't clear is the alumilastic was already on the replacement part so a separate tube is not required. That wasn't clear on the video and was an unneeded expense.

This would apply to any ice dispenser that has a steel hex shaft wed to a coupling on the hopper with multiple grooves in it. Emptied and defrosted ice hopper with warm water, but the coupling in question is isolated from the ice cube path, so warm water doesn't affect it directly. Removed Ice hopper by force (wiggling plus upward tugging). This pulled up the whole lower drive shaft an inch or so and detached it from the motor, but coupling released at that point in response to gentle tilting of hopper while pulling up. Removed shaft housing (2 x 1/4" hex screws), pulled up shaft and tapped white plastic retainer ring and gasket/seal back to the top of the shaft -- they had slipped down toward the middle of the shaft when pulling up the ice hopper to permit tilting. Dried all parts thoroughly, cleaned off rust on shaft. Used Whirlpool restaurant grade silicone lubricant to coat entire lower shaft and seal, filled coupling on hopper with grease, and filled the lower coupling well with grease as well.
