Whirlpool WP2182179 Refrigerator Door Upper Closure Cam OEM Part

Replaced both sets of door cams on my Kenmore Elite Refrigerator. The most important thing to know is that you DO NOT have to remove the doors from the refrigerator to replace BOTH sets of cams. You just have to remove the lower grill which is a snap fit (I also turned off the water and unplugged the unit). My fridge has an ice and water dispenser where the water and electrical lines go through the cams on the left side. Be sure to order the correct parts as the cam holes on the freezer side are bigger. You can easily disconnect the water line and electrical line (there are a couple screws holding the electrical line in). The bottom cams are attached to the lower hinges. Before removing, support the bottom of the door with something that touches the floor. I found that two drinking glasses (turned upside down) were the perfect height. Now you can take the screws out of the hinge (mine had a shim on both sides) and then remove the cam with one screw. The door cam can be removed with one screw by using a small ratchet. I used a small amount of lithium grease on the surface of the bottom cams before reassembly. Putting it all back together was a breeze except for one thing. The lower door cam on the right side (non-freezer) was shaped differently than the original. The new one fit however I had to drill out one of the holes so it would fit over a pin that kept it in place. I got the correct size drill bit by measuring against the original cam. It was slightly larger after drilling it out and fit just fine. Before you put your grill back on, vacuum what you can out of the lower opening. Our dog sheds and there was a lot of hair. Have fun.

Ordered the upper and lower door cams - both live on the hinge at the bottom of the door. Repair took just a few minutes. Four 5/16 machine screws need to be removed and replaced to complete the repair. My door is slightly different from the one in the video. One thing that I learned from the video was to prop up the door with a block of wood before starting repair. I don't think I would have thought about that if I hadn't watched the video. For that reason alone, I buy my parts from AppliancePartsPros.com.

I replaced the door cams and the thimble bearing.

The video on the page where I purchased the part was very helpful. I thought I would have to remove the door to fix it, but the video showed how to put a board for support under it and change the part without removing the door. The refrigerator the video did the repair on wasn't exactly like mine, but I was able to figure it out. I removed the screws to take off the hinge and had to remove the door stop since one of the screws was holding in the door cam. I used a screw driver to work the old cam out of the door, just like the video suggested. It works great now!
