How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6005980 / WP2182179 Refrigerator Door Upper Closure Cam

Ordered the upper and lower door cams - both live on the hinge at the bottom of the door. Repair took just a few minutes. Four 5/16 machine screws need to be removed and replaced to complete the repair. My door is slightly different from the one in the video. One thing that I learned from the video was to prop up the door with a block of wood before starting repair. I don't think I would have thought about that if I hadn't watched the video. For that reason alone, I buy my parts from AppliancePartsPros.com. 

I replaced the door cams and the thimble bearing. 

The video on the page where I purchased the part was very helpful. I thought I would have to remove the door to fix it, but the video showed how to put a board for support under it and change the part without removing the door. The refrigerator the video did the repair on wasn't exactly like mine, but I was able to figure it out. I removed the screws to take off the hinge and had to remove the door stop since one of the screws was holding in the door cam. I used a screw driver to work the old cam out of the door, just like the video suggested. It works great now! 

Replaced lower and upper door cams. Works great now. Repair video was very helpful and parts arrived in 2 days with standard shipping. 

Replaced bottom door cam and top thimble bearing. Once again your company has amazed me!!! I have used your company 3 times now and your customer service ROCK and the parts were are always at my house in two, three days tops and the parts always fit like a charm! I looked at the bottom hinge bracket. I could tell that the plastic 'cam' nubs were worn down flat. My fridge is a KitchenAid KSBS25INSS01 with the adjustable nut for fridge door height on that bottom hinge bracket. Watch the video on how to support your door and take off the hinge, it saves tons of time. This took me like 15 minutes tops. Door cam part # AP3046922 fit perfectly into the bottom of the door itself. The cam part that fits on the hinge bracket is discontinued, but use part # AP5644987. You will have to open up the smaller "guide" hole with a 3/8" diameter drill to fit over the guide post of the hinge. The "pivot" post hole is already the exact size. Part # AP4032045 was NOT the correct piece for my fridge. Put it all back together and it works perfect! Just like new! 

By replacing some hard plastic bushings or 'cams' in the door hinges, Top and bottom one. 

Replaced upper and lower cam and door stop bracket. Video had very helpful suggestion to support door with block(s) of wood while hinge disconnected, so didn't have to remove upper hinge or remove door. Turned 2-person job into 1-person job. Love this site! 

I left the door on. I shimmed it with wood blocks an a magazine. Adjusting the number of pages under wood gave a snug, customer fit. I only replaced the lower block. I would recommend getting the complete dual door kit, with both upper and lower cams. It's only a couple of bucks more and then you have a brand new system. 

Purchased Kenmore door cam and installed it as per video. Very easy because of "trick" on video to support the door with a wood block. Took about 10 minutes.
