Janell N Portland , OR August 10, 2014 Appliance: Amana Refrigerator ABB1924DES Ice maker stopped making ice I had verified that the water supply was healthy, so it was either the icemaker unit or the water valve. I replaced the icemake first, based on a the pareto showing it was the culprit for most other people, but it didn't help. That replacement was straightforward; the hardest part was reaching all the way back to unclip the wiring harness since I am too lazy to totally empty the bottom freezer and remove the door. So the next step was the water valve. The hardest part of this was pulling the fridge out from its corner without scratching the floor, and without help from anyone else. Once the fridge was out from the wall and the water supply turned off, it took four very simple steps to demo the old valve: 1. one screw to free the valve from the back of the fridge, 2. unplug the electrical/signal cable, 3. Unscrew the nut on the supply line connecting it to the inlet of the valve, 4. compress the washer and pull out the outlet line that runs from the valve to the icemaker. Installing the new valve took those same steps in reverse order, plus a little bit of leakchecking with the water supply back on. Et voila! Ice! The total active time was about 10minutes, but I let the machine cycle through making ice to make sure it wasn't leaking when the valve was open and that took some patience. Jack P Santa Fe , NM October 04, 2015 Appliance: Maytag Refrigerator MSD2756GES Not making ice I had to do two things: Replace the water inlet valve and remove the ice blocking the fill tube. The replacement of the water valve was pretty easy. Just remove the screws and pull out the old valve. It took me a few hours of looking online to figure out that the old style of hose attachment (a threaded connector) was very easy to convert to the push-in style on the new valve. I was confused because the new valve looks very different and there was nothing to suggest that they are really compatible despite the difference. I wasted time looking for the exact same valve. Of course, the valve by itself didn't fix the whole problem. I had to melt the ice out of the fill tube inside the freezer. That required removing the ice maker to get access to the fill tube. Then I used a hair dryer to heat the fill tube. The hair dryer was constantly battling the freezer air so it took a while. I could have used some tips on how to not melt the plastic side wall of the freezer. My tip: use a stack of towels to cover everything except what needs to be heated. The fill tube melting took about 20 minutes and towards the end, I was able to use nose pliers to pull out the last 3" piece of ice. It all is working well. Joseph M Stanley , NC June 03, 2018 Appliance: Model MAYTAG FRIDGE Ice maker stopped working I replaced the ice maker, wiring harness, and water valve. Total time was approximately 30 minutes, that included taking the door off the freezer and cleaning the dust off the compressor and coils while I had the back of the fridge off. One thing to mention, the ice maker did not immediately fill with water when I was done, the temperature has to come back down to the correct temperature before the water valve allows it to fill with water, a online chat with one of your techs informed me of this. Within a hour or so we were making ice. Great service and instructions from you guys.
