Whirlpool 4318046 Water Valve OEM Part

Hello, After watching your repair videos and reading the other comments regarding the ice maker I decided it needed to be replaced due to the old age (12 years) and mysterious flakes in the ice cubes and the solenoid valves were recommended to fix the hollow ice cube problem. After watching the repair videos on the ice maker and solenoid valves I decided I could do the replacement myself. Not needing a service technician to be called out. Also while waiting for the parts to arrive, I noticed water leaking from under the fridge. The parts came in and I replaced the ice maker in about 15 minutes with no problems thanks to your repair video. I had to move the fridge out of the hole it was located in and at 80 years old that was the hardest part of all the repairs. Got it pulled out and discovered the plastic tubing that went up the back of the fridge from the solenoid valves to the ice maker inlet (for filling) was leaking at the upper connection. The steel strap that clamped and sealed the connection on the backside of the fridge directly behind the ice maker was completely rusted into two parts. That was my leak, so I cleaned and reconnected the plastic tubing using a new steel band. That fixed the water leak. I replaced the inlet water hose from the wall to the solenoid valves, which was 1/4" copper, with 3/8" plastic tubing. Then I replaced the solenoid valves with the new unit I received from AppliancePartsPros.com. Buttoned up the rear cover and replaced the fridge in its home. The ice cubes are now solid and there is no leaking water. Also, I have a much stronger water flow out of the cold water dispenser on the front of the fridge located in the door. Not a bad job for an old man. Probably took me 3 hrs including clean-up time for the very dirty floor. I would have never tried this project if it wasn't for the excellent videos showing "How To". Installing a new dual water assembly valve was the fix. The video on the website was very helpful. Anyone with moderate fix it skills can perform this repair, but, there might be some unexpected issues: 1. If your incoming waterline is one of those "pinch valve" external water pipe valves, you might find that shutting it off and turning it back on renders it inoperable. I found this to be the case, and ended up cutting a section out of the water supply pipe and installing a "Shark Bite" 3 way connector and an auxiliary 1/2" shutoff valve. 2. You might find that the incoming 1/4" tubing has accumulated corrosion and needs to be "blown out" with compressed air, or simply replaced. Those 2 issues were encountered, but, all issues were remedied and the install went smoothly after that.

Our 22yr old whirlpool refrigerator started making hollow ice cubes. I research what the problem might be and found It most likely was the water inlet valve. I entered my model number on appliance parts pro and to my surprise they still carried the part. The part arrived within two days and after watching the instruction video, my husband had the part installed within 15 minutes and that included moving the frig out and getting the tools. My ice cubes are now perfectly solid. We are extremely pleased with the whole process. The moral of the story, don't spend money on new when you can fix it yourself.
