F1 - E0 EEPROM communication error 1. Disconnect power for at least 30 seconds.
2. Re-apply power and observe for at least one minute.
3. If code re-appears, replace control board (also called ERC or clock).

Note: Applies to all F1-E... codes except F1-E3.

F1 - E3 Wiring harness cavity size does not match previously stored value The "Cavity Size Select" jumpers in the wiring harness indicate a cavity size different from that which the control was previously configured for. Check the jumpers in the harness to make sure they agree with the actual oven size.
 
F2 - E0 Shorted keypad (also called touch pad) 1. Check keypad connector for firm connection (keypad connects to control board).
2. Press CANCEL. If error code returns after 60 seconds, replace keypad (also called touch pad or membrane switch). Some models incorporate keypad in to control board as one unit. In this case, replace control board (also called ERC or clock).
F2 - E1 Keypad cable unplugged

F3 - E0 Oven temperature sensor (RTD) opened (upper oven, if double oven) Replace Oven temperature sensor (RTD)

F3 - E1 Oven temperature sensor (RTD) shorted (upper oven, if double oven)
F3 - E2 Oven temperature is too high (Cook mode)
F3 - E3 Oven temperature is too high (Clean mode)
F3 - E4 Oven temperature sensor (RTD) opened (lower oven, if double oven)
F3 - E5 Oven temperature sensor (RTD) shorted (lower oven, if double oven)
F3 - E6 Warming drawer sensor open

F4 - E1 Meat probe malfunction - shorted Problem could be with the probe, the receptacle, or probe circuit. Check probe. Look for pinched wire. Look for condensation or contamination on probe receptacle. Replace probe if all else checks out ok.
F5 - E0 Door switches do not agree (condition exists when door switch is closed indicating an open door, and latch switch is closed indicating a locked door) 1. If door latched:
  1. Disconnect power from unit.
  2. Check wires and connectors from control to door switch, then from door switch to control. If no damage to wires and all connectors okay, proceed to step C.
  3. Replace door switch.
  4. Re-apply power.
  5. Press and hold any key down for 1 minute to clear F5 failure code from memory. F2 will appear. Press CANCEL and observe for 1 minute to ensure operation is correct.

2. If door not latched:

  1. Disconnect power from unit.
  2. Check wires and connectors from control to latch switch, then from latch switch to control. If no damage to wires and all connectors okay, proceed to step C.
  3. Repeat steps A and B for door switch.

3. Measure door switch (door open = switch open small low voltage terminals). Replace switch if defective.
4. Measure latch switch (unlatch = switch open, CAUTION - oven light contacts are closed). Replace switch if defective.
5. If corrections are made in any step, reconnect power to control. Press and hold any key for 1 minute to clear R failure code from memory. F2 will appear. Press CANCEL and observe for 1 minute to ensure operation is correct.
6. If failure remains, disconnect power and replace control.

Note: Applies to all F5-E... codes.

F5 - E1 Self clean latch will not lock
F5 - E2 Latch during CLEAN error
F5 - E5 Self clean temperature not reached within 45 minutes.
F5 - E6 Door is open, but latch is locked
F5 - E7 Self clean latch will not unlock
F6 - E0 Return line not connected If switch pulse return line is not connected, electronic control will display F6 within 60 seconds after power up. Replace control.
F7 - E1 Common switch wire is defective Common wire (+5VDC) to latch switch, and to door switch is shorted to chassis ground or neutral. A double oven will have two of each switch and one common wire.
1. Check connections at control and at the latch switch and door switch.
2. If all connections are good, then check the individual switches as outlined for the F5 failure.

2 Digit Failure Codes
F0 Board failure Replace control board (also called ERC or clock).
F1 Board failure Replace control board (also called ERC or clock).
F2 Oven temperature is too high 1. Look for welded relay contacts on bake or broil relays. If this happens, replace oven control (also called clock or ERC).
2. For SELF CLEAN models: check door lock operation.
3. Look for a high resistance connection or any other cause of high resistance in the oven temperature sensor circuit. Check sensor, sensor harness and sensor harness connection at sensor and oven control. Replace sensor if found defective.

Remember: Oven control (ERC) measures resistance of sensor circuit, not actual oven temperature.
F3 Oven temperature sensor (RTD) open Replace Oven temperature sensor (RTD)

Kitchen Aid Front Loading Automatic Washer Fault Codes (Model KHWS01PMT/ WH)
Failure Code Fault Code Description Solution
FH No water detected entering machine or pressure switch trip not detected If after 30 seconds the control does not detect water entering machine, the valves will be turned off and the error code will be displayed.
OR
If the control has turned the water valves on, and after 8 minutes, the flow sensor has detected 10.5 gallons of water passing through it, but has not detected the pressure switch trip, the valves will be turned off, and the error code will flash.

Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display.

Possible Causes / Procedure

•  If there is no water in the unit:
- Make sure that both valves at the water source(s) are turned on all the way.
- Check for plugged or kinked inlet hoses or plugged screens in the inlet valves.
- Verify inlet valve operation.

•  If there is water in the unit:
- Verify drain pump operation.
- Verify that the pressure switch hose is in good condition and properly connected to tub
and pressure switch.

1. Verify there is not a siphon problem.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Verify wire harness connections to inlet valves, pressure switch, drain pump, flow meter,
and Central Control Unit (CCU).
4. Check all hoses for possible leaks.
5. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
6. Verify pressure switch operation.
7. Verify flow meter operation by blowing air through the part and measuring the resistance.
8. Verify CCU operation by running a Diagnostic test or any cycle.

Replace failed component.

F02 Long drain If the drain time exceeds eight minutes, the water valves are turned off and "F02" is flashed.

Press PAUSE/CANCEL two times to clear the display.

NOTE: After four minutes the "Sud" error will be displayed, then four minutes later the "F02" error code will be displayed..

Possible Causes / Procedure

1. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running.
4. Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects.
5. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
6. If the above does not correct the problem, go to step 7.
7. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
8. Replace the pump.
F05 Water temperature sensor error If during the water heating step in the wash cycle, the water temperature sensor (NTC) value is out of range, the "F05" error code will be displayed.

Possible Causes / Procedure

1. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
2. Check the water temperature sensor. Check connections to the water temperature sensor.
3. Check resistance of heating element, if present on this model. (abnormal = infinity).

Replace failed component.
F06 Drive motor tachometer error The control is unable to properly detect motor speed and the machine will shut down. If a failure occurs during high-speed spin, the door will be unlocked after three minutes.

Possible Causes / Procedure

1. Verify the shipping system including shipping bolts, spacers and cables are removed.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check wire harness connections between the drive motor and the Motor Control Unit (MCU), and between the MCU and the Central Control Unit (CCU).
4. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
5. Check the MCU by looking for operations of the drive motor.
6. Check the drive motor for powered rotations.

Replace failed component.
F07 Motor control unit error The main control has detected a short in the Motor Control Unit. If a failure occurs during high-speed spin, the door will be unlocked after three minutes.

Possible Causes / Procedure

1. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
2. Check wire harness connections between the drive motor and the Motor Control Unit (MCU), and between the MCU and the Central Control Unit (CCU).
3. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
4. Check the MCU by looking for operations of the drive motor.
5. Check the drive motor for powered rotations.

Replace failed component.
F09 Overflow condition If the overflow contact on the pressure switch is closed for more than 60 seconds, an Overflow Condition will occur. In an overflow condition, the door remains locked and the drain pump runs constantly, even if PAUSE/CANCEL is pressed twice and the display is cleared. Turn off hot and cold water faucets and unplug the unit before servicing.

Possible Causes / Procedure

1. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check wire harness connections to the drain pump, pressure switch, and Central Control Unit (CCU).
4. Check/clean drain pump filter of foreign objects.
5. Check for drain pump failure.
6. Check the inlet valve for proper shut off.
7. Check the pressure switch for proper operation.

Replace failed component.
F10 Motor control unit (MCU) heat sink thermal trip If the thermal protector on the MCU heat sink gets too hot, it will open the thermal protector on the heat sink which will stop motor functions and an "F10" will be displayed.

Possible Causes / Procedure

1. Check for proper installation, verify the unit is not located near a source of heat and has proper ventilation.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check wire harness connections to the MCU, the motor, and Central Control Unit (CCU).
4. Check the drive system for any worn or failed components.
5. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
6. Check the MCU by looking for operations of the drive motor.
7. Check the drive motor for powered rotations.

Replace failed component.
F11 Serial communication error Communication between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and the Motor Control Unit (MCU) cannot be sent correctly.

Possible Causes / Procedure

1. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
2. Check wire harness connections to the MCU, the motor, and Central Control Unit (CCU).
3. Check the drive system for any worn or failed components.
4. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
5. Verify CCU operation by running a Diagnostic test or any cycle.
6. Check the MCU by looking for operations of the drive motor.
7. Check the drive motor for powered rotations.
8. Check that the serial harness at the MCU is not mounted upside down. The wires should be to the left when facing the MCU connectors.

Replace failed component.

F13 Dispenser circuit error If the dispenser motor is not able to be driven to its proper position.

Possible Causes / Procedure

1. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
2. Check mechanical linkage from dispenser motor to the top of the dispenser.
3. Check wire harness connections to the dispenser motor and Central Control Unit (CCU).
4. Check dispenser motor for powered rotations.

Replace failed component.
F14 EEPROM error The Central Control Unit (CCU) receives its data from an EEPROM onboard the CCU. If there is an error reading this data it will cause this error.

Possible Causes / Procedure

A power glitch may cause this error.
1. Unplug washer or disconnect power for two minutes.
2. Verify CCU operation by running a Diagnostic test or any cycle. Replace if defective.
F15 Motor control unit (MCU) error If the MCU detects multiple resets or errors during a wash cycle it will go into this error mode.

Possible Causes / Procedure

1. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
2. Check wire harness connections to the MCU, the motor, and Central Control Unit (CCU).
3. Check drive belt.
4. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
5. Check the MCU by looking for operations of the drive motor.
6. Check the drive motor for powered rotations.

CCU / Touchpad / LED assembly error This error occurs if the touchpad/LED assembly is not able to transmit/receive data to/from the central control unit (CCU).

Possible Causes / Procedure

1. Check the touchpad/LED assembly by selecting different cycles and changing the modifiers and options available to confirm the touchpad/LED is responding.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check wire harness connections to the touchpad/LED assembly and Central Control Unit (CCU).

Replace failed component.
FdU Door unlock error A Door Unlock Error occurs if the door cannot be unlocked. It will try to unlock the door six times before displaying the error code.

Possible Causes / Procedure

• Door lock mechanism is broken.
• Door switch/lock unit failure.
1. Check door switch/lock unit for foreign objects.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check wire harness connections to the door switch/lock unit and Central Control Unit (CCU).

NOTE: The door switch/lock unit can be manually unlocked:

To manually unlock the door lock system, perform the following steps.
1. Unplug the power cord from the outlet.
2. Remove the lower toe panel.
3. Reach up along the inside of the front panel and locate the bottom of the door latch assembly.
4. Located on the bottom of the door latch assembly is a teardrop shaped tab. Gently pull the tab down approximately 1/4 inch, or until a click is heard.
5. The door may now be manually opened.
FdL Door lock error A Door Lock Error occurs if the door cannot be locked. It will try to lock it six times before displaying the error code.

Possible Causes / Procedure

• Door lock mechanism is broken or removed from door.
• Door switch/lock unit failure.
1. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
2. Check door switch/lock unit.
3. Check the wire harness connections to the door switch/lock unit and Central Control Unit (CCU).
Sud Suds lock (Overdose of detergent detected during the wash cycle) The Motor Control Unit senses a suds lock condition by analyzing the current draw on the drive motor. If "Sud" is displayed a potential Suds Lock is detected. This may signify a bad pump, an extra heavy load, excessive detergent, or excessive suds.

Possible Causes / Procedure

• If too much detergent was used:
- Run the unit through a Rinse/Spin cycle.
- Run a Normal cycle without adding any detergent.

This should clear the unit of the excess detergent.

1. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check wire harness connections to the drain pump, pressure switch, and Central Control Unit (CCU).
4. Check/clean drain pump filter of foreign objects.
5. Plug in washer or reconnect power.

Possible Causes / Procedure

1. Check the touchpad/LED assembly by selecting different cycles and changing the modifiers and options available to confirm the touchpad/LED is responding.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check wire harness connections to the touchpad/LED assembly and Central Control Unit (CCU).

Replace failed component.

F32 Pressure switch failure If after 30 seconds the control does not detect water entering machine, the valves will be turned off and the error code will be displayed.
OR
If the control has turned the water valves on, and after 8 minutes, the flow sensor has detected 10.5 gallons of water passing through it, but has not detected the pressure switch trip, the valves will be turned off, and the error code will flash.

Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display.

Possible Causes / Procedure

1. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
2. Check to verify that the pressure switch is operational.
3. Replace pressure switch.
F33 System leak If after 30 seconds the control does not detect water entering machine, the valves will be turned off and the error code will be displayed.
OR

FdU Door unlock error A Door Unlock Error occurs if the door cannot be unlocked. It will try to unlock the door six times before displaying the error code.

Possible Causes / Procedure

• Door lock mechanism is broken.
• Door switch/lock unit failure.
1. Check door switch/lock unit for foreign objects.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check wire harness connections to the door switch/lock unit and Central Control Unit (CCU).

NOTE: The door switch/lock unit can be manually unlocked:

To manually unlock the door lock system, perform the following steps.
1. Unplug the power cord from the outlet.
2. Remove the lower toe panel.
3. Reach up along the inside of the front panel and locate the bottom of the door latch assembly.
4. Located on the bottom of the door latch assembly is a teardrop shaped tab. Gently pull the tab down approximately 1/4 inch, or until a click is heard.
5. The door may now be manually opened.

FdL Door lock error A Door Lock Error occurs if the door cannot be locked. It will try to lock it six times before displaying the error code.

Possible Causes / Procedure

• Door lock mechanism is broken or removed from door.
• Door switch/lock unit failure.
1. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
2. Check door switch/lock unit.
3. Check the wire harness connections to the door switch/lock unit and Central Control Unit (CCU).
Sud Suds lock (Overdose of detergent detected during the wash cycle) The Motor Control Unit senses a suds lock condition by analyzing the current draw on the drive motor. If "Sud" is displayed a potential Suds Lock is detected. This may signify a bad pump, an extra heavy load, excessive detergent, or excessive suds.

Possible Causes / Procedure

• If too much detergent was used:
- Run the unit through a Rinse/Spin cycle.
- Run a Normal cycle without adding any detergent.

This should clear the unit of the excess detergent.

1. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check wire harness connections to the drain pump, pressure switch, and Central Control Unit (CCU).
4. Check/clean drain pump filter of foreign objects.
5. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
6. Check drain pump.
7. Check the pressure switch.
8. Verify CCU operation by running a Diagnostic test or any cycle.

Failure Code Fault Code Description Solution
PF Power failure PF flashes to indicate that a power failure occurred while the dryer was running. Press Start to continue the cycle, or press Pause/Cancel to clear the display.
E1 Temperature sensor open E1 flashes in the numeric display when the temperature sensing circuit is open. Replace temperature sensor if faulty.
E2 Temperature sensor shorted E2 flashes in the numeric display when the temperature sensing circuit is shorted. Replace temperature sensor if faulty.
E3 Blower rotation failure If during a cycle the blower rotational speed drops below 500 rpms, all outputs will be turned off and error code E3 will be displayed.
E4 Tumbler rotation failure If during a cycle the tumbler rotational speed drops to 0, all outputs will be turned off and error code E4 will be displayed.
E5 Dry rack sensor If during a Dry Rack cycle the signal is lost, all outputs are turned off and E5 is displayed.
E6 Exhaust high limit fault If the exhaust temperature goes above 87.7°C (190°F) all outputs will turn off and E6 will be displayed.
