this model does not have a defrost timer just a thermostatic switch and a heater. what change of temperature causes the thermostatic switch to change state and turn on the heater? and what ends the cycle?

Will this work for listing appliance? roper rt14bkxsq00? Also, to test to see if mine is bad, I have read that to disconnect fridge power, locate and disconnect bimetal, and while its still cold, check the ohm with a ohm meter(or volt meter set on ohms) if it reads 0, it works. if it reads 1 it is bad? is that correct?
