Amana Defrost Thermostat
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WPW10225581

The Defrost Thermostat is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It is responsible for monitoring the temperature of the evaporator coils. Symptoms of a bad defrost thermostat include:

  • Excessive ice buildup in the freezer section.
  • Inadequate cooling in the refrigerator compartment.
  • Frost or ice accumulating on the evaporator coils.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

This part fixes the following symptoms
  • Frost buildup
  • Freezer not defrosting

Condenser was encased in solid block of ice due to automatic defrost not working. Replaced thermostat and ADC control board. Working fine now. Most tedious part was using a heat gun to melt all the ice off the condenser coils. You will need a couple small wire nuts to splice the new thermostat into the existing harness (they are not included). Service tech wanted over $400 to repair, fixed it myself for half that. Thanks !
