Steve C for Model Number 790.78579400 Kenmore ( made by Electrolux ) 30" gas range & oven. Oven door light switch is "completely" missing. Just the hole is there. Been trying out how to get to the inside to find the wires and buy / install a new switch but can't figure it out. Access from the front oven opening looks prohibitive... tried lifting the cook top by releasing the 2x spring clips but I can only lift it about an inch. not sure what's restricting it but it appears to be something with the gas supply to the burners. Any help would be appreciated
Answer Hello Steve, If the oven door is allowed to close hard enough or repeatedly it can knock the door switch 316445501 through the mounting hole into the stove's interior. If you want to access thru the top then turn off power and gas to the stove, remove the cooktop burners as the gas tubes feeding them are connected underneath , once removed you can lift the top off. Look on the left side inside the stove to find the switch and wires. Alternately you can remove the left side panel however the stove would need to be tipped to right and supported as the panel at the bottom has the leveling legs for that side. Read More...
