Manufacturer Part Number: WR23X37285

The Light Switch is an OEM replacement part for GE refrigerators. It controls the interior light, turning it on when the refrigerator door is opened and off when the door is closed. This ensures proper illumination for visibility when accessing the refrigerator's contents.

A malfunctioning light switch can result from wear and tear, electrical issues, or damage caused by repeated use. Over time, the internal mechanism may fail, or the housing can crack, leading to improper operation.

Symptoms of a bad light switch include:

  • Interior light not turning on when the door is opened
  • Light staying on even when the door is closed
  • Flickering or inconsistent light operation
  • Difficulty pressing or releasing the switch

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Steve for Model Number ZISW42EM(B)(C)(D) GE Monogram Refrigerator

Regarding door switch # WR23X10143: I cannot get the switch to turn 90 degrees to allow the wiring connections to clear the opening and get the switch out. I am supposed to push on a tab on the right side to release the switch, but I see no tab. The switch is starting to deform and I still cannot release it. I even watched a "You Tube" where the tab is pushed and the switch turns right out - but I cannot seem to do this. Could there be something different about this switch? It is possible that the mounting hole in my unit is cut slightly smaller than specified? I would like to inspect this situation for correct diagnosis before I order new switches. Many thanks! Answer

Steve, You'll need to go at this from the above the doors(bottom of the compressor compartment). You' need to open or remove the upper grille panel "Remove the grille panel by removing 2 screws from each side. Remove the wire guard and rocker switch panel. " Once you have the wire guard removed from the lower front portion of the compressor compartment, you'll have access to the door switches and wiring harness. Just make sure you remove power to the refrigerator before you start.
