Manufacturer Part Number: WE04X24550

The Timer is an OEM part for GE dryers. It's a component that controls the duration of the drying cycles, ensuring clothes are dried efficiently and not overexposed to heat, which can cause damage. The timer regulates the start, duration, and end of each cycle, playing a pivotal role in the operation of the dryer.

Causes of a malfunctioning timer can include wear and tear from regular use, electrical failures that impede the timer's movement, and physical damage to the timer knob or internal components.

Symptoms of a bad Timer include:

  • The dryer doesn't start or complete a cycle
  • Cycles run longer or shorter than programmed
  • The timer knob does not advance or is stuck

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Michael for Model Number GTD42EASJ0WW

Hi. I'm trying to replace a GE dryer timer. Part # WE04X24549 has been discontinued. New Part WE04X24550 has some differences and I'm not sure how to proceed. The old timer has 2 wires to tab C. Brown wire to on/off switch and Beige wire to Extended Tumble switch. New timer has room for only one connection to tab C. New timer also has a tab F that is not on the old one. Assuming one of the connections (beige wire) goes to tab F. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Answer

Michael, The timer should be the same with the exception of the terminal F. This was added for the timer to be used with other models so disregard that terminal. Wire the new one the same as the old one using the stampings on the back of the timer.
