Bill for Model Number Samsung RS25h5111SR/AA

The freezer works fine at set temp. Compressor and fans seem to cycle on and the condensing coils are dust free. The fridge somehow got switched into demo mode and we lost all of the food inside. When switched back on, the freezer was ok but the fridge would not cool below about 50-55 degrees F. Thawed the fridge for a day unplugged. powered back up and the fridge would not cool below 55 degrees F after about 8-10 hours. Sometimes it cools to the set point and then rises to 50-55 degrees intermittently. The freezer always works ok and makes ice ok. My wife is fed up and wants me to throw this one out and go with another brand. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, how to you go into diagnostic mode on the panel?

Answer

Bill, Check the evaporator to make sure that it is not frosted or iced up. If it is not check to make sure that the fan motor is running. Test the thermistor in the refrigerator to make sure that it is good. The evaporator should have a even frost pattern top to bottom and if it is impacted with ice then this would cause the issue and would need to test the defrost heater, defrost thermostat and defrost sensor to make sure that they are good.
