Kalier R. for Model Number Whirlpool ED5LHEXTD00 I defrosted the refrigerator and it started running and cooling but the temps in the fridge is only 50º and the freezer is only at 15-20º with settings at coldest. I had previously replaced the thermostat control. The frigde and freezer reached temperatures of 40º & 0º for about a week then it started to get warm again. The defrost heater is working because I opened it up while it was cooling and there was no ice build up. Do I need to replace the Compressor Start Relay?
Answer Hi Kalier. Open the freezer door. Feel the front of the divider (center) wall. It normally is warm to touch. IF- it is HOT as a burn type of hot, then the condenser fan motor may be blocked or not turning up to speed. Condenser fan motor part # WP2188874. Clean the fan blade as well. Then use a condenser cleaning brush part # TJ103 and a shop vac. to completely clean the condenser coils. If they are packed with debris then the freon will be at a boil state and not allow the cooling to come down. You may need to lean the unit back and support it to get to the front half. Thank You.
