Ann for Model Number AFI2538AES I have an 6/7 year old Amana Fridge/Freezer with the freezer on the bottom. The unit stopped cooling but the electronics and lights still work. I called a repair person and they took off the back panel inside the freezer and found a layer of ice on the top of the evaporator fins. Then told me the control panel was running hot and I need to replace the control panel for $500. But wouldn't the control panel be running hot if the evaporator had ice build-up? I did not see the technician test the evaporator fan - should he have? The tech ordered a new control panel but now I'm questioning if the tech was trained properly?
Answer Hello Ann. The ice will not cause the board to over heat. As for the fan, they should test for power coming to it. If there is no power, then the HV board W10890094 will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
