By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18030570
Manufacturer Part Number: WP65889-4

The Run Capacitor is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It is responsible for helping the compressor motor start and run efficiently by providing an extra electrical boost. This component ensures that the refrigerator operates smoothly and maintains the correct temperature by stabilizing the compressor's performance.

Causes of a bad run capacitor can include electrical surges, age-related wear, or overheating. When the capacitor fails, the compressor may struggle to start or run continuously, leading to inefficient cooling or a non-functional refrigerator.

Symptoms of a bad run capacitor include:

  • The refrigerator not cooling properly
  • The compressor not starting or running intermittently
  • Unusual clicking noises from the refrigerator

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Selav for Model Number Amana BB20V1PS P1321315WS

First noticed that ice maker stopped working, then realized that actually freezer wasn’t working in general. No ice buildup anywhere. Fridge section still seems ok. We turned freezer temp control to off, let it fully warm up, then turned it back on to coldest setting and left it overnight. Fan is on at back and blows cool air but freezer never got down to freezing temperature. We have multimeter and electronics test experience but no fridge repair knowledge. Suggestions for how to investigate further would be great.

Answer

Selav, it would be recommended that the evaporator is inspected for a frost pattern. If there is not a light snow coating the entire evaporator after 40 minutes of compressor run time, the failure is in the sealed system and would require an EPA-certified technician to diagnose and repair the failure.
