Wendy for Model Number LER7848DQ0

I HAVE A WHIRLPOOL DRYER WHICH HAS WORKED GREAT FOR MANY YEARS. RECENTLY I NOTICED A TEAR IN THE DRYER LINT SCREEN AND A CRACK IN THE PLASTIC EDGE. THE TEAR IN SCREEN IS DIRECTLY ALONG THE PLASTIC EDGE THAT HOLDS IT TOGETHER. COULD THE CRACK IN THE PLASTIC AND/OR THE TEAR IN THE SCREEN BE CAUSING THE PROBLEM OF ME HAVING TO RUN THE DRYER 2-3 TIMES TO COMPLETELY DRY 1 LOAD OF LAUNDRY? I HAVE CLEANED THE LINT TRAP WITH A LINT WIZARD TOOL THAT IS ATTACHED TO VACUUM...BARELY ANYTHING WAS IN THERE WHEN DONE CLEANING. ALSO CHECKED OUTSIDE HOUSE WHERE THE DRYER EXITS AND THAT AREA IS ALSO NOT CLOGGED, BUT I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH CLOTHES NOT GETTING COMPLETELY DRIED DURING ONE CYCLE. I DON'T WANT TO BUY A NEW DRYER OR PAY FOR A REPAIR PERSON TO COME OUT TO TELL ME THAT I NEED TO REPLACE DRYER LINT TRAP BECAUSE OF TEAR IF THIS IS IN FACT MY PROBLEM. WILL YOU PLEASE HELP ME SO THAT I KNOW WHETHER I'M ON THE RIGHT TRACK BY ASSUMING THAT THE TEAR IN THE PLASTIC AND LINT SCREEN MAY BE CAUSING THE PROBLEM? THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP. WENDY

Answer

Wendy, You're on track, you really need to replace the damaged filter WP349639 and you will need to disconnect the exhaust venting and remoev any built upi lint in the pipes. The excess lint from the broken filter is accumulating in the pipes and restricting the exhaust air flow. You'll also want to use a "Shop Vac", slide it into the dryer exhaust pipe, as far as possible, and remove any lint build up in the pipe and blower housing.
