By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18038748
Manufacturer Part Number: WP8531267

This control panel mounts on the appliance's door and provides the push-button interface for selecting cycles and options. Replacing a cracked or unresponsive console restores reliable button operation and a clean, factory look. What it does:

  • Houses the user-interface buttons and indicator windows used to select cycles/options
  • Provides a rigid mounting surface for the door's UI components
  • Helps protect internal wiring at the top of the door
  • Typical symptoms: buttons don't respond or work intermittently, unit won't start when Start/Resume is pressed, selections change unpredictably, or the console is cracked/loose
What's included:
  • One console assembly
Install notes:
  • Disconnect electrical power; turn off the water supply if needed
  • Open the door and remove the inner-door perimeter screws to separate the console from the inner panel
  • Note and transfer any reusable parts from the old console as required; make secure, straight ribbon/harness connections
  • Reassemble the door, restore power, and run a quick function check before final tightening

Hi Andy. This is totally up to you. The old saying remains true mostly. If it isn't broken then don't fix it. Yes, agreed the panel replacement is part # WP8531267. Remove the lower kick plate and make sure that the unit is level from side to side and front to back . This will insure door switch alignment so you can see if it will start the board correctly. Usually more times than not the unit not installed properly will ruin door switches and door seals. So, just either buy both initially and replace them one at a time. Then if you do not need the user interface board part # WP8531262, you can send it back. This way you have it along in case you do. Thank You.
