By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18051237
Manufacturer Part Number: WPW10207400

The Broil Element is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens. It is designed to provide intense, direct heat from the top of the oven cavity during the broiling function. The broil element is a key component responsible for achieving the desired browning and charring effects when broiling foods.

Symptoms of a bad broil element include:

  • Uneven or incomplete broiling of foods
  • Failure of the element to heat up or maintain consistent temperature
  • Visible signs of damage or deterioration on the element surface
  • Flickering or irregular heating patterns during broiling

Causes of a bad broil element can include prolonged use and exposure to high temperatures, which can lead to the element becoming brittle and prone to cracking or breaking. Electrical issues, such as power surges or faulty connections, can also contribute to premature failure of the broil element.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Randy for Model Number KEMS307DBS6

Oven is heating but not to preheat temperatures. I set preheat to 200 degrees. The oven heated and the preheat timer for 200 degrees sounded. An oven thermometer confirmed temperature at 200 degrees. I set the preheat temperature to 350 degrees and the timer sounded indicating 350 degrees. However, the oven thermometer indicated only 250 degrees. I suspect either the element or the thermometer is bad. Would you agree? I think the element part number for my model (KEMS307DBS6) is WPW10207400.

Answer

Randy, as the heating element is heating the oven, the oven sensor WP4451665 would need to be tested for resistance. At room temperature, it should measure 1080 Ohms and when heated with a hairdryer, it should increase 2 Ohms for every degree of temperature it rises. If the sensor tests good, the failure would likely be a control 4448869 failure. Unfortunately, the control has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available.
