Customer Questions and Answers for Pump Filter by Whirlpool

By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18049956
Manufacturer Part Number: WPW10192799

The Pump Filter is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. This part is strategically designed to trap and filter out food particles, debris, and other substances that could clog the dishwasher's pump and drainage system.

A bad Pump Filter can result from debris buildup, wear and tear, and structural damage. This can hinder water flow, reduce cleaning efficiency, and compromise particle trapping ability.

Symptoms of a malfunctioning Pump Filter include:

  • Poor cleaning results, as clogged filters can impede water flow and reduce the dishwasher's effectiveness.
  • Water not draining properly, potentially leading to water pooling at the bottom of the dishwasher.
  • Unusual noises from the dishwasher, which can indicate that the pump is working harder than normal to circulate water through a clogged filter.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Answer

Jim, Unless you can see that the filter screens and bottom tabs are clogged with debris or sediment, that's probably not the issue. When it comes to poor cleaning on the top rack, your first check needs to be to make sure the dishwasher is filling properly. remove the lower rack, and start a wash cycle, let the machine run a few minutes(3-5) unlatch the door, and wait a few seconds then open the door and check if the water level in the bottom of the tub is in contact with, or partially covering the heater element, if not, there is not enough water in the machine to properly pressurize the pump and reach the top spray arm to wash properly. You will also need to check the docking port WP6-917647 on the manifold and make sure the rubber flappers are in the proper position and swivel properly. If there is not enough water in the tub, you will want to replace the fill valve 99002628 or W11082871 depending on serial number.
