Answer Marc, A "bypass plug" is not necessary for your refrigerator. The filter base has an internal mechanism that allows the water to flow directly from the tubes to the reservoir when the filter is removed. When the filter is installed the mechanism directs the water into and through the filter then to the reservoir. Remove the filter and make sure you snap and lock the filter cover in place.
