Manufacturer Part Number: 8193506

The Float Switch Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It includes the float and the switch mechanism that monitors and controls the water level inside the dishwasher. The float switch ensures that the dishwasher does not overfill by signaling the water inlet valve to shut off the water supply once the appropriate level is reached.

Causes of a bad float switch can include debris or mineral buildup, wear and tear over time, or electrical failures within the switch mechanism. A malfunctioning float switch can lead to water overfilling, which may cause leaks and inefficient washing performance.

Symptoms of a bad float switch kit include:

  • Dishwasher overfilling with water
  • Water leaks during operation
  • Dishwasher not filling with enough water
  • Error codes related to water levels

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Winston for Model Number KUDA230YWH2

Kitchenaid dishwasher drips through float assembly. The float moves freely, and underneath the machine I could see the stem moving up and down, activating the switch. I removed the assembly, found a very small amount of material in and around the components. I cleaned it thoroughly and tested the switch with an ohmmeter. It showed 3.5 ohms in the float down position and infinite in the up position. After replacing everything (tightly), the leak is much greater. Float mechanism seems to be working. Should I replace the intake valve?

Answer

Winston, It sounds like the unit may be overfilling in which the issue would most commonly be the float switch. It is possible that the water valve is not closing off all the way and causing the overfill issue. Also make sure that the unit is level as this could also cause the issue. Check the spray arms to make sure that they are not clogged or cracked causing a wave effect that would cause water to drip out.
