The Float Switch Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It includes the float and the switch mechanism that monitors and controls the water level inside the dishwasher. The float switch ensures that the dishwasher does not overfill by signaling the water inlet valve to shut off the water supply once the appropriate level is reached.

Causes of a bad float switch can include debris or mineral buildup, wear and tear over time, or electrical failures within the switch mechanism. A malfunctioning float switch can lead to water overfilling, which may cause leaks and inefficient washing performance.

Symptoms of a bad float switch kit include:

  • Dishwasher overfilling with water
  • Water leaks during operation
  • Dishwasher not filling with enough water
  • Error codes related to water levels

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Steve, I would run the diagnostic cycle to see if there are any fault codes. To invoke the Diagnostics Cycle, perform the following while in standby: ¦ Press the Start key to wake up the control panel. ¦ Press any 3 keys in the sequence 1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3 with no more than 1 second between key presses. ¦ The Service Diagnostics Cycle will start when the door is closed. The tech sheet behind the kickpanel will give explanations of any fault codes in the control's memory.

Hello Peter, the parts list does not indicate any type of clip at the bottom of the float stem, just pull the float straight up and it should come out of the holder.

Frank, there should be two brown wires going to the fill valve. One brown wire comes directly off of the control board, the other brown wire goes over to the float switch and then back up to the control board.

Petr, You will want to check to make sure that spray arms are not clogged and make sure that they are not cracked. These would be the most likely scenarios that would cause the leaking issue.

Dishesbyhand, You will want to check the float switch to see if there is continuity on the switch without the button being pushed. If there is not continuity then this will be a faulty switch. If it has continuity then check to see if there is power to the water valve and if there is not then test to make sure that the control board is sending power to the valve.

David, You will want to check the pump assembly to make sure that there is nothing caught in the pump. Also check to make sure that the water level is just below the heating element when the unit is done filling with water. These will be the most likely causes for poor cleaning. Check the drain pump to make sure there are no restrictions.

Mac for Model Number Kenmore 665.1277

All buttons work but when try to start and close door, dishwasher just flashes a blue light like it is paused in the wash cycle. It never starts. It does the same thing if the door is open. I checked the door latch switch by removing the panel and checking continuity when it is latched and it appeared ok. I took out the racks and same problem. What else could be causing the problem? Is there any diagnostics that can be done to help solve the issue?

Hello Mac. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the control panel is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.

Bob for Model Number KUDE70FVSS3

The water level is not filling to the proper level - never floats the float. I have replaced the water inlet valve and control board and no change. If the water level doesn't get high enough, the sanitize cycle never works as the water level is well below the heater. When I first start the unit, it seems to begin filling for a few seconds, okay, maybe 5-10 secs, then the drain motor starts and it is hard for me to determine if we are still filling when this happens. During the initial cycle, the unit will go back and forth between filling and draining a couple of times. It does get some water into it as I can see water dripping from the dishes above and everything seems wet, but water never gets hot because it fails to reach the heater. I am thinking the float switch is bad since I have swapped out everything associated with getting hot water. I notice the water level wasn't right after I googled how to determine if my dishwasher was filling to the proper amount. Again, replaced the water inlet valve, heater, temp sensor (think this is part of a unit that checks how clean the water is), controller and temp limit switch, even door switch. Running out of things to change, just ordered the float switch. Think this is a good bet? Yes tried rebooting the controller and some insight on how to do this would be great. I unplugged the unit overnight to obtain a reboot.

Bob, The float switch will be the likely cause with what has already been done. You may want to pull the float to ensure that the float is not cracked or filled with water which will diminish its effect.

Tim, It is not necessary to put a second washer on but if you do it would go on the inside under the nut. As long as it is not leaking with one then you could use only one.

Katie, The float switch can cause either overflow or a under fill depending on what is happening inside the switch. The switch is most likely not the issue but has the potential to be. As for what else could cause this would be if the water valve is not opening all the way, if the water pressure is not adequate or if the control is shutting water off too soon. It would be more likely that the valve is not opening all the way.
