Katie, The float switch can cause either overflow or a under fill depending on what is happening inside the switch. The switch is most likely not the issue but has the potential to be. As for what else could cause this would be if the water valve is not opening all the way, if the water pressure is not adequate or if the control is shutting water off too soon. It would be more likely that the valve is not opening all the way.
