The Ice Maker is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It automates the ice production within the freezer, providing a steady and reliable supply of ice cubes.

Causes of a bad Ice Maker can include malfunctioning water valves, clogged filter systems, or issues with the thermostat that affect ice production. Additionally, mechanical failures in the ice ejector arms or the heating mechanism that releases the ice can prevent proper functioning.

Symptoms of a bad Ice Maker include:

  • No ice production or very slow ice production
  • Ice cubes that are smaller or larger than normal
  • Ice that tastes odd or smells bad
  • Loud noises during the ice-making process

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Greg Chase for Model Number WRS571CIHZ01

I purchase this Whirlpool refrigerator and it was just delivered The ice maker will not make ice, the lever which should be in the down position won’t budge and is in the up position. When looking at the bottom of the small ice tray that’s in there has a water line going into a plastic block in the center of the ice tray. It was delivered to us and has 2 wire ties around the plastic block, I don’t think they belong there and it may be the reason the ice maker lever won’t move. Should these have been cut off before this was delivered or do they belong there.

Answer

To the best of our knowledge, there are no wire ties that would remain attached to any plastic block or other components of the ice maker or dispenser assembly. Check to make sure the ice maker has been turned "ON" ( Open the freezer door and remove the ice storage bin. Locate the ice maker switch on the left wall of the storage area). Once you remove the wire ties and lower the "bail arm" on the ice maker, allow the ice maker to cycle for 24 hours, discard the accumulated cubes and then use the cubes from then on.
