Manufacturer Part Number: W10873791

The Ice Maker is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It automates the ice production within the freezer, providing a steady and reliable supply of ice cubes.

Causes of a bad Ice Maker can include malfunctioning water valves, clogged filter systems, or issues with the thermostat that affect ice production. Additionally, mechanical failures in the ice ejector arms or the heating mechanism that releases the ice can prevent proper functioning.

Symptoms of a bad Ice Maker include:

  • No ice production or very slow ice production
  • Ice cubes that are smaller or larger than normal
  • Ice that tastes odd or smells bad
  • Loud noises during the ice-making process

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Coleen for Model Number WRS576FIDM01

Whirlpool WRS576FIDM01 in door ice maker stopped making ice. There is no water reaching the ice cube tray. The water to the in door dispenser works fine, replaced water filter and the water pressure is fine (dispenses about just over 1/2 cup in 5 seconds). This is what I've tried: 1) Replaced the ice maker unit W10873791 - still not making ice. 2) Checked the wires at the hinge of the freezer door - no broken or damaged wires. 3) Thought maybe it was a faulty water inlet valve, Replaced W10341320. After testing the continuity on the old & new they both show continuity on both solenoids. The red (for the water dispenser) shows continuity (183 Ohms). The Yellow (for the ice maker) shows continuity (238 Ohms). So even though replaced, that wasn't the problem - still no ice. 4) Filled ice tray manually by adding water to the tray to see what would happen - nothing, ice maker doesn't discharge the ice. 5) Discovered ice blockage at tube where it dumps water into the ice tray - cleared ice blockage with a hair dryer. I can see that it cleared the larger black tube. Can probe about 3/4 inch with a pipe cleaner into the small tube and comes out wet- so I believe the blockage is cleared. Still no ice after 24 hours. Freezer temp set to 0 degrees, raised to 5 degrees to see if makes a difference. No ice. 6) Checked the on/off switch - have continuity when the switch is on and the door sensor is depressed. I see mention of a tech sheet behind the kick plate on the front of the unit, but I've removed the lower kick panel and don't see anything. Suggestions for next steps to diagnose what the problem might be?

Answer

Coleen, it would be recommended that the freezer temperature is verified using a thermometer. If the temperature is not less than 10°F, the ice maker would not harvest properly. The temperature being out of range can be caused by a failed thermistor or control board.
