Symptoms of a bad ice maker include:

  • Failure to produce ice cubes

Michael for Model Number KFXS25RYMS4

Water leaking under refrigerator. Only happens every other day or so, but is large amount when it happens. I have narrowed it down to ice maker. Checked all lines feeding from water source and through out refrigerator. No leaks in lines or at valve locations. Ice maker is freezing and producing ice. Seems like it's getting too much water? When water is turned off to refrigerator...no leaks. When water is turned on, but ice maker is turned off...no leaks. Water dispenser works fine. Thanks for any ideas.

Answer

Michael, Check and see if there is water accumulating under the deli drawer or the bottom of the refrigerator compartment. You may need to remove the panel in the right rear wall of the refrigerator compartment and check the fill valve and tubes for cracks, leaks etc. Check the condition of the ice cubes in the ice bin, are they frozen together or over sized ? this would also indicate a leak or overfill situation with the ice maker. Once you remove the rear panel, you'll see how the water supply tube is routed through a channel in the wall and up to the top of the refrigerator, and the water to the ice maker is dispensed through the ceiling of the "ice box" and into the ice maker.
