Causes of a bad ice maker can include worn components that affect its ability to properly freeze water, malfunctions in the electronic control board that regulate the process, or issues with the supply line.

Symptoms of a bad ice maker include:

  • Failure to produce ice cubes
  • Incorrect sized or shaped ice
  • Excessive noise during operation
  • Water in the freezer

This OEM replacement part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Eric for Model Number MFX2570AEM0

I'm having an issue with the ice maker on this Maytag refrigerator. The unit was intermittently making ice and now has stopped. The tray does not have any water in it. Is there a diagnostic test I can do to tell if the ice maker needs to be replaced or it's an issue with the valve (have attempted to defrost ice is not the issue). Also if the unit needs to be replaced my ice maker is part number w10377151 which looks to have been replaced by the wpw10882923 you guys have. The end of the ice maker is different. Does this require a new wiring harness to be installed?

Answer

Hello Eric, In most cases, if the icemaker stops working with the ice mold empty, there is an issue with the water valve. In the cases where the icemaker stops empty and the icemaker is at fault, the issue is with the contacts in the icemaker that send the voltage to the water valve. This can be tested by forcing a cycle and checking for 120Vac at the water valve for the 6 to 7 seconds near the end of the icemaker cycle. If the voltage is present at the end of the cycle, the water valve is at fault.
