John for Model Number WRF535SMBM00 I have a one year old whirlpool refrigerator located in our lake home. It stopped working. Every time I leave to return to our regular home, I turn off the water at the main supply line, but leave the power on. Last week, when we were at the lake, I noticed the ice bin was empty and the ice maker would not make ice even though we were there for two days. My question is, did I ruin the solenoid when I shut off the water supply, not realizing the ice bin was empty and the ice machine was on? Also, is there a way the ice maker knows the water is off and thus does not attempt to make ice? Thanks
