Antonio for Model Number WRX988SIBM01 I just replaced my ice maker WPW10764668 for the fourth time: (1) The original ice maker failed after 5 years with T56 reporting E5 (2) The second ice maker failed after 1 year with T56 reporting E5 (3) The third ice maker failed after 2 weeks with T57 reporting 03 (yep, not listed) and T58 reporting 03 (4) The fourth ice maker (I just installed yesterday) seemingly failing after 1 day with T56 reporting E5. Do these ice makers have a high rate of manufacturing defects? It is reasonable that I could have received two defective ice makers in a row? Is it possible that there is something else wrong in the fridge? At the moment, the water in the ice maker is freezing and will randomly decide to be harvested, but the rate that ice is being made seems way slower than it should be and the "Fast Ice" option doesn't kick on the ice box fan unless I unplug the power to the fridge (which resets the error code) and then the ice box fan will kick on (until E5 is hit again). Any ideas? Should I just try for another ice maker and hope I don't get another defect?
Answer Hello Antonio, test 56 E5 indicates the control board has reverted to a timed ice maker harvest, meaning it is based on time rather than temperature. This is likely being caused by a slow or stopped ice fan W10846539 which does not run a full speed normally, it the fan motor is dragging it would account for the slower ice and the fault code. At startup the control board runs the fan at full speed then slows it down as needed, at the lower speed it may be too slow (due to wear) to help pull freezer air up around the ice maker.
