4.89 (64)
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18022827
Manufacturer Part Number: WP31001556

This replacement igniter lights the gas burner in your range or wall oven, restoring reliable starts and consistent heat. Swap in a fresh igniter to resolve hard-to-light burners and no-heat situations so cooking cycles begin as they should. What it does:

  • Provides the ignition source to light the bake or broil burner flame
  • Helps ensure fast, consistent burner light-off at the start of a heat cycle
  • Common symptoms of failure: no ignition/no heat, delayed or intermittent ignition, repeated clicking without flame, or a gas odor before light-off
What's included:
  • 1 igniter assembly
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and shut off the gas supply before servicing; allow the appliance to cool completely
  • Note wire connections and mounting orientation from the original part for correct reassembly
  • Handle the ceramic/element carefully to avoid damage
  • After installation, restore gas and power, then check for leaks with a soap solution

Answer

Mike, To access the ignitor, unplug unit from wall. Using a putty knife push in on the spring clips that are located between the main top and the front panel. This will allow you to lift the top. With top lifted, disconnect the door switch and remove the 5/16" screw on either side of the front that holds it in place. Roll front panel forward and lift off. You may be able to access the ignitor at this point but if not then you will have to remove the bulkhead and the drum. To remove bulk head you will remove the 4 screws holding in place and lift off. To remove the drum you will first need to release the belt from the motor and idler pulley. Once removed you will lift drum out and you will have access to the ignitor. Reinstall in reverse.
