Hello Kathy, The timer knob has nothing to do with the operation of the timer except giving the customer a way to set the cycle and monitor the cycles progression. The spin cycle can be the timer. It can also be the spin bearing, the drain pump, the brake, the belt, etc. Give me a model number so I can see the configuration we are talking about. I could also use a better description of what the unit is doing during the spin cycle. Please respond back as we are anxious to assist in any way we can.
