Part Number: OEM9325425
Manufacturer Part Number: 4387535

This compressor overload is the thermal protector for your refrigerator's compressor. It opens the circuit when the motor overheats or draws excessive current, helping prevent damage and restoring reliable starts when the original protector fails.

  • Interrupts power to protect the compressor during overheat or overcurrent conditions
  • If failed, symptoms include: compressor won't start, repeated clicking or brief hum then stop, warm refrigerator/freezer, and an unusually hot compressor shell
  • A weak protector may trip repeatedly and reset after cooling, causing intermittent cooling
  • Works in tandem with the start relay/device to manage compressor startup current
What's included: 1 compressor overload protector Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing and pull the unit forward for rear access
  • Remove the rear cover; note wire positions and take a photo for reference
  • Pull the old overload straight off the compressor terminal; transfer leads and firmly seat the new overload in the same orientation
  • Capacitors can retain a charge—handle with care; reinstall cover and restore power to test

John L. for Model Number Whirlpool ED22LFXGW00

I pulled the wire to the relay from refrigerator. There are wires leading to the overload and relay, red and white. I haven't removed the overload and wire attached. I did remove the relay and white wire. The relay has a rattle inside. After reading it sounds like its bad due to the rattle inside. I didnt pay attention to which terminal that white wire attaches to when I pulled it off. There are numbers on each terminal, which terminal does the white wire attach to on the relay when replaced? How do I tell if the overload needs replacement too? How to test to see if its still good? Inital observation when the unit wasnt getting cold, everything powered up inside the fridge. Lights on, fans inside on, and fan down by the compressor on. After hearing few clicks from the compressor trying to turn on I unplugged it and waited 30sec. Plugged it back in and only lights were on. No Fans working. Did the relay cause everything to cease working or is it something else causing the fans to stop working. Read something about stuck in Defrost Mode, if thats the case or it just need more time for fans to kick back on? TY for help

Answer

Hi. The red wire goes to the compressor overload "c" terminal. It is the white device with the single terminal in the kit part # 4387535. The units white wire connects to the compressor "m" (run) terminal. The two capacitor blue wires have to hook to the brown relay. One capacitor wire hooks to the single terminal on the new brown relay. On the other side of the brown relay there are 2 terminals. The top one connects to the units white wire. The bottom terminal connects to the the other capacitor wire. If you need to use the red wire in the kit for extending a wire from the unit then this is whats it's for. Yes - rattling ptc is sign of a bad internal relay (ptc). Thank You.
