Craig for Model Number LSC 8244DQO I bought a replacement pump for my Whirlpool washer, part #AP2907492. After watching the video on how to replace the pump, it seems that the receptacle on the pump, that slides over the motor shaft is too small. In the video, the pump seems to slide on with no problem. Do I have to use a hammer to tap the pump housing to get it on to the shaft?
Answer Hello Craig, It sounds to me as though the pump has leaked at some point in the past and the motor shaft has rusted. I have run into this situation quit a bit and it is very simple to rectify. Simply use a piece of sandpaper on the motor shaft and the excess will come off easily. Then the pump will slide on without much effort at all. DO NOT USE A HAMMER ON THE PUMP! If you do this, you will be re-ordering the pump as it will break under the impact of the hammer and if by some weird chance it doesn't, it will cause the seal to leak. Read More...
