The Direct Drive Washer Pump is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It is responsible for pumping water out of the washer during the drain cycle, ensuring that the washing machine drains efficiently after each wash.

Causes of a bad direct drive washer pump can include blockages from debris or foreign objects, wear and tear from regular use, damage to the pump impeller, or electrical issues affecting the pump motor. Over time, these factors can hinder the pump's performance, leading to operational issues.

Symptoms of a bad direct drive washer pump include:

  • Washer not draining water properly
  • Unusual noises during the drain cycle, such as grinding or humming
  • Water leaks from the bottom of the washer
  • Washing machine stopping mid-cycle due to drainage issues

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Whirlpool Direct Drive Washer Pump (Part Number: OEM18024330)

Rb for Model Number WTW5560SQ0

Been having very bad spinning issues with washer. Sometimes won't spin or will spin very slowly. If I lift lid and try to manually turn the drum (grabbing under upper edge and forcing some counterclockwise movement) it will begin to spin after re-closing the lid. But it really spins slow at first. Sometimes with larger loads it's very stubborn to spin at all once in a spin cycle and some water is being left under the machine. Agitation cycles seem fine. Fills fine. Does this sound like the clutch or the gear box...? Possibly a clutch and water pump? Appreciate any help. Thanks.

RB, Based on the model and description of your issue I agree you will likely need a clutch assembly, part# 285785 as far as the pump goes you can check to make sure the water is pumping out.

Tai, If the drain hose is leaking then this will be a drain hose that would be needed and should not need to replace the pump.

Ed, Try to use a silicone grease or something like that to get the pump on. You should not have to sand and file.

Mel for Model Number AP6008107

A month ago I replaced this part on my washer. It’s the direct-drive water pump. (I did not get this part from your company) The part I purchased has already failed and my washer leaked again! When I removed the part I could actually see melted plastic on the side opposite of where the part slides onto the motor. I obviously need a new water pump, but now I’m wondering if there’s something else wrong with the washer that might have caused this piece to melt. This time I’m thinking I should order the part from a more reputable source so I’m also wondering what is your parts guarantee policy?

Hello Mel, You should make sure the motor shaft is clean and the drain pump slides on it easily. The only other thing that can cause this is strings and lint from the wash accumulating in the drain pump.

RB, while the drain pump should be able to rotate fully without much resistance, it is unlikely to be the issue as it is rotated directly by the motor. As the drain pump does rotate, the next items to check would be the motor coupling 285753A to ensure that it is intact and the next likely item would be the clutch assembly 285785.

Bill, the replacement drain pump is part , WP3363394, easiest way to drain the tub is to attach a wet/dry shop vac to the end of the washer drain house and drain down the tub, also check for any obstruction in the hoses to and from the drain pump,,if you need there is a repair video on our website, .

Lisa, It is very likely you need to replace the clutch assembly 285785 as long as you are not experiencing any drain issues.
