John, If the installation is correct, there is always a small amount of water in the drain pump and hoses. This works as a seal and keeps "stack gas" from enterring into the machine. As long as the drain hose is not "sealed" to the drain pipe, you should be fine. The most likely issue is a build up on the tubs from detergent, softner and dirty and oil from the articles washed. You may want to use a product like "Affresh" W10501250, to remove any residue from the tubs.
