Customer Questions and Answers for Oven Temperature Sensor by Whirlpool

By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18034032
Manufacturer Part Number: WP7430P044-60

This oven temperature sensor monitors heat inside the oven and sends that signal to the control to regulate the heating elements. Replacing a faulty sensor restores accurate preheat and steadier baking performance. What it does:

  • Continuously measures actual oven-cavity temperature and reports it to the control
  • Lets the control board cycle bake and broil elements to maintain the set temperature
  • Common symptoms of failure: won't reach set temperature, runs too hot or too cold, extended preheat, or sensor-related error codes on the display
  • If the sensor reads open/shorted, many controls will disable heat as a safety
Includes:
  • 1 oven temperature sensor
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power at the breaker; allow the oven to cool completely
  • Sensor is typically mounted to the rear oven wall; remove mounting screws and gently pull the sensor forward to access the connector (some models require rear-panel access)
  • Disconnect the 2-wire plug carefully to avoid losing the connector into the insulation
  • Route wiring as original, seat the connector fully, secure the sensor, restore power, and test operation

Answer

Marc, You will need to move the range away from the wall, remove the back panel and check for burnt or damaged wires between the upper broil element and the oven control board, Also check the 74009969/ 74009969 Hi-Limit Thermostat for a "closed" circuit at room temperature. If all checks are OK, replace the oven control W10769079/W10769079 Control-Electronic. Thanks,
