Hello S.N., I a situation such as this, you need to do a thorough inspection of the burner area. If the burner looks stopped up or deteriorating or in any way malformed or defective, the burner should be replaced. The ignitor and the safety valve should be replaced any way. The burner is of primary concern because if it isn't dropping gas on the ignitor properly, too much gas will accumulate before the gas actually ignites. If it were mine, I would replace the safety valve, the ignitor, and the burner. I would strongly recommend the same for any of my customers.
