Kyle December 08, 2025 I have a new gas stove that leaks gas on the stove top when the dial is between the off position and the ignite position. Is this a normal function or is something faulty?
1 Answer Kyle, When you turn on the burner, gas will flow until it ignites. Since there is a little space between the off position and the ignite position gas will flow. Read More...
Tina November 07, 2025 for Model Number MGR8600DH0 A service repair tech said the gas safety valve is broken and needs to be replaced. I'd like to know the the correct replacement part. I'm hoping with your tutorial, we can replace it ourselves.
1 Answer Hello Tina, and thank you for your question. The gas valve assembly WPW10602004 would be used with the model provided. With the gas supply turned off and the power cord unplugged, this can be removed from the back of the range where it will have torx head screws securing it to the frame. Read More...
Kathy March 13, 2023 for Model Number MVWC565FW2 When I start my washer, the drain pump automatically kicks in and doesn't fill. There are no lights on my control panel at all. Could the issue be the main control board?
1 Answer Kathy, based on the information provided, the main control W11654022 would be the most likely cause of failure if there is not a blockage or suds where the pressure hose connects into the tub. Read More...
Hon August 19, 2022 for Model Number agr3311wdw2 This is a gas stove. What makes the oven ignitor come on when the oven knob is not even turned on to "on"? I didnt know if it could be the safety valve that has gone bad. Any help would be great!
1 Answer Hon, the thermostat WPW10641988 would have a sticking contact if the igniter is turning on when the knob is in the off position. Read More...
Walter W May 05, 2020 for Model Number WFG320M0BB2 We have a Whirlpool gas oven/stove WFG320M0BB2 The handyman that installed it supposedly installed the right parts for it to operate on propane. The oven makes a big orange flame that seems unusually big. Food cooked in there has a black, sooty residue on it. The stove flames are mostly orange, even when you turn them way down. There is black soot on our pots and pans now. We have new propane. I don't want to call the prior handyman back out. What could be the problem and the repair? Thank you!
1 Answer Walter, This issue sounds like the unit was not switched to LP so it sounds like you may need to covert this unit to LP. Read More...
George N December 21, 2017 for Model Number WGG755S0BS01 My top oven work normal cycles and maintain 400 degrees for about 45 Minutes. Then Temperature drops, ignitor glows trying to start burner but oven does not start. Display on top shows temperature is still 400 degrees. Install new clock control board and ignitor but did not solve the problem. Can you help and suggest something
1 Answer George, You will want to check the oven sensor to make sure that it has the proper resistance when the temperature is dropping. If this checks ok then the issue will most likely be that the oven safety valve would be faulty in which when it gets too hot it stops opening. Read More...
Robert S February 05, 2016 for Model Number SF262LXSW0 Oven and broiler will not heat up, brought new oven ignitor and replaced the old one and the oven still won't heat up. When I first start the oven it goes through it's proper cycles I can hear the two clicks at the bottom of the oven and the oven will try to light but nothing happens.
1 Answer Robert, You will want to check the resistance of the oven safety valve for 216 ohms from the middle to either of the outer terminals and if the resistance is not correct then the valve is faulty and you will need part number WPW10293048. Read More...
Jeff April 05, 2015 for Model Number SF368LEPS0 When we first start our oven it starts fine, but when it tries to restart to heat back up it usually does not ignite the first time. It will usually try to ignite 3 or 4 times before it ignites if it does , sometimes it will pause and try again. I have replaced the igniter and it seems to work fine, just wondering if the problem could be the gas safety valve?
1 Answer Jeff, The most likely cause would be a faulty safety valve. When the unit coils inside the valve heat up it will cause the coils to close and have to cool down in order to open up again. Read More...
Duane C. January 12, 2015 for Model Number WFG114SWQ1 Oven will not light. I have replaced the ignitor, and I have read the ignitor lead and it reads 3.45 amp. the ignitor glows, you hear the gas valve open and you hear and smell gas flowing. I have checked and cleaned the burner tube holes and moved the ignitor until it is almost touching the burner tube. I have 120 volts to the outlet the stiove is plugged into, and I have even tried a different outlet on a different phase of the breaker box. When you turn the oven on, the ignitor glows and the gas valve opens but it doesn't light. If you light it with a match, it will heat up and cycle off when the temp is reached, but then it cycles off and when it drops and tries to relight, same thing again, ignitor glows and gas valve opens no light. Also gas pressure is checked and fine. What could it be?
1 Answer Hello Duane, The safety valve WP98014893 has an internal problem and is not opening properly. Read More...
Duane December 01, 2014 for Model Number wfg114swqf My daughters oven will not light. when you turn the oven on, the ignitor glows and you hear the gas valve open and you hear and smell gas. but it doesnt light. i have replaced the ignitor and there is no change. if you light the oven with a match it will heat up and work until it cycles off to maintain the temp, but then when it tries to relight to maintain the heat, again the ignitor glows and gas valve opens, but no flame. stove is just over a year old. is it the safety valve? i have removed the burner tube, all clear, i have removed the gas lines, all clear, i have removed the orfice, clear. what else is there besides the safety valve?
1 Answer Hello Duane. You need to check the voltage coming to the range. It sounds like it may be low and not allowing the igniter to get hot enough to light the gas in the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
