Hello Sam. The ratcheting device that the rear legs are mounted on does not lock. When the weight of the machine is lifted off of it, it defaults to center position. Then when the units' weight is set down onto it, the device automatically sets to equalize the units weight to each of the four feet so it cannot rock. It will never lock but if you tilt the unit up onto the front feet and you don't hear the mechanism "click", it may need to be lubriacated. I would recommend a spray lubricant such as TJLPS2.
