Rosie, You can test it to be sure. Gain access and you should find the letters P and L1 stamped on the back of the switch. Remove the two wires and test for continuity between the two terminals. If they have continuity with the switch off then the switch is bad. If there is no continuity between the two then the surface element for that burner would need to be replaced. These tests need to be done with the unit unplugged for safety.
