Part Number: OEM18016494
Manufacturer Part Number: WP12575501

This limit switch monitors a set condition and opens or closes its contacts when that limit is reached. Replacing a failed switch restores proper safety cutoff and consistent operation of the appliance's heating or movement system. What it does:

  • Senses a limit condition at its mounting point (such as temperature or travel/position, depending on model)
  • Changes state at a defined threshold to protect components and wiring
  • Interrupts power to heat or motor circuits, or signals a control to respond
  • Common failure signs: no heat or shuts down early, runs continuously, won't start, or intermittent operation
What's included:
  • 1 limit switch
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power to the appliance before servicing
  • Note wire positions; transfer connectors one at a time or take a photo for reference
  • Reinstall in the original orientation so the actuator or sensing surface contacts the correct area
  • Address root causes (blocked airflow, binding mechanisms, shorted components) to prevent repeat failures

Answer

Hi Tom. Dispenser Function. 1. The dispenser allows serving ice and water without opening the door. 2. Pressing the dispenser switch dispenses crushed or cubed ice or water. If ice is selected, the switch operates the door solenoid also. The door will close 5 seconds after the ice is dispensed. 3. If the freezer door is opened, the dispenser is deactivated. 4. If there is no OFF signal 3 minutes after the ice dispenser is activated, the auger and door solenoid are turned off. The auger will stop immediately, but the door will not close for another 5 seconds.5. The dispenser lamp turns on automatically if the crushed/cubed/water button is pressed or if the dispenser button is pressed. It will turn off automatically shortly thereafter.6. Selection function of water/crushed/cube ice 1) Select crushed/cubed/water. The display will show your selection. 2) If you select cubed ice, the auger is rotated to dispense cubes. 3) If you select crushed ice, the auger is rotated in the opposite direction to direct the cubes through the crusher.7. Water dispenser function 1) If you select water, the display will indicate water. 2) The water dispenser uses a solenoid connected directly to the water pipe. Pressing the dispenser switch operates the solenoid, which is at the right side of the back plate. All this numbered steps are out of the LG service manual. Tape the freezer door light switch shut. Make sure the wires are connected to it clean and tight and it interrupts the controls with the door open. Tape the door switch shut. Disconnect the auger motor connector and while pushing the ice actuator pad are you getting 120 vac to the motor ? IF so then the door switch is sending the voltage to the board. The actuator micro switch part # WP12575501 closes the circuit back to the fountain board and the auger motor gets the voltage from the wires connected to the board. You can ohm out both motor colors one at a time to the white (neutral wire) To see if the motor windings are OK. Ohm them out to the wire to the motor frame to insure the windings are not shorted to ground. (0-Ohms). The motor is part # WP67003226. The motor gears can freeze tight if the cavity demand temperatures are too cold.. Below -2°. It also uses a capacitor to allow the motor voltage to be efficient. If your meter does not have a capacitor scale, it can still be checked. Put the meter on R x 10,000 ohms. Checking the capacitor one direction of the leads will allow a pegged scale on a analog meter (Pointer scale). On a digital it will immediately reach 0-ohms (shorted), then it will bleed off slowly showing the capacitor good and finally reaching a "open". Then you reverse the leads and and a good capacitor reads open (not shorted). Make sure the capacitor is fully discharged before handling. It is part # WP65889-4. You can temporally connect the actuator paddle switch wires together to test and see if the motor now receives the 120 volts needed. Also you need the 120 volts on the opposite solid wire to the white wire as you also ask for crush. Just as you checked the blue and orange to the white wire ohmed individually, the same motor blue and orange wires need 120 vac to the white neutral wire each tested respectfully. Thank You.
