The Dryer Timer is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool dryers. It is a critical component that controls the timing and sequence of the various drying cycles, ensuring the machine operates correctly and efficiently.

Causes of needing to replace the dryer timer can include general wear and tear over time, electrical malfunctions, damage from power surges or voltage fluctuations, or moisture or water exposure within the timer itself.

Symptoms of a bad dryer timer include:

  • The dryer failing to advance through the complete cycle or getting stuck in one part of the cycle
  • Cycles running for an incorrect duration (too short or too long)
  • The dryer failing to heat, tumble, or stop at the appropriate times

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Michael for Model Number WED5100VQ1

My Whirlpool dryer dries clothes ok, although it has always seemed to take longer than it should to dry them. My latest problem is that the timer does not advance thus the dryer never shuts off. I have to set an alarm to remind me to stop the dryer by opening the door. I have forgotten many times and have had the dryer run for long periods of time which wastes a lot of electricity and $$$$$. I have replaced the door switch, the dryer cycling thermostat, and today I will replace the Dryer thermal fuse, which I suspect will be another waste of time and money. What shall I replace next? My guess is the next parts to replace (in order) will be; ; 1) Hi Limit Thermostat...2) Dryer thermal cut off kit...3) timer...This is based on what I have read on your website and the cost of the parts...Am I on the right track? Thank you for your help.

Answer

Michael, select the timed dry setting(5 -10 minutes), if the dryer timer advances and shuts off, the timer is NOT the issue. If the thermal cut off was the issue the dryer wouldn't heat at all, the hi limit thermostat could be "weak" and you may want to replace it ? At this point, it sounds like you have an air flow, exhaust issue, a clogged vent, or vent hood or a vent system that's too long will cause the dryer to heat improperly, and cause the circuit to bypass the timer motor and the timer will not advance on the auto cycles properly.
