Steve_P for Model Number Maytag MAV7600AWQ Hi... Washer runs normal til gets to spin cycle then I hear an electrical "hum" that sounds like coming from timer area and will get a burning smell then everything goes dead like a thermal overload has tripped. Cannot restart no matter where turn timer to and it's not the lid switch. After cooling off for 1/2hr or so, when pull out the switch, the washer will continue as normal and spin and drain. I'd replace the timer pt# 2608740 but most forums say it rarely fails and should look elsewhere. Any thoughts on narrowing down the cause of the issue? Thanx
Answer Steve, We have a different timer WP22003499 for the model number you supplied. Since the motor runs in one mode, but stalls and overheats in the spin direction, it's not likely a motor issue. In order to reverse the motor direction the polarity is reversed through the timer contacts. If the timer contacts are arced together or has a partial circuit, the motor can try to turn in both directions and cause the odor and overheat and stall.
