This is a 60 Hz electromechanical timer that controls the sequence and duration of wash, rinse, and spin cycles in a washing machine. It uses a small motor and a series of internal cams and contacts to advance the machine through each stage of the laundry cycle. Replace this timer if the washer gets stuck on one cycle, skips cycles, won't advance, or fails to start altogether.

Hello Fred. You will need to unplug the machine and remove the two screws in the back corners of the control panel. Then pull the panel forward and flip it backwards. Next, with the timer knob pressed in, you will pull out the clip on the back of the timer and pull the knob off the timer and remove the skirt. Now release the timer and unplug the wires going to the timer. Reinstall in reverse order with the new timer WP8557301. Hope this helps.
