This mechanical timer sequences the dishwasher through its wash, drain, and dry steps. Replacing a failing timer restores proper cycle advancement so the dishwasher starts, progresses, and finishes cycles reliably. What it does:

  • Times and sequences power to the wash motor, drain pump, fill valve, and heater for each stage of the cycle
  • Advances the cycle automatically and moves the dial/indicator through programmed steps
  • Coordinates wash, rinse, and dry durations for consistent results
  • Typical failure symptoms: cycle won't advance or stops mid-cycle; runs too long; must be advanced manually; timer knob won't turn
What's included:
  • 1 mechanical timer assembly
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power at the breaker before servicing; do not rely on the control panel to turn the unit off
  • Access the timer from the control console/inner door; remove screws to reach the component
  • Photograph/label wire positions and transfer leads to the new timer one at a time
  • Reuse existing mounting hardware and knob; ensure the shaft orientation matches before reassembly

Dave for Model Number LSQ9030PQ5

Hello, it appears as though the plastic tip of the timer shaft (the piece that attaches to the knob) has broken off. I can still work the washer by turning the knob to the correct location, removing the knob and pulling out the shaft, by hand, to start the cycle. As I look at the diagram, it appears as though the only option is to replace the entire timer. That's a high price to replace a small plastic tip. Is there another part that might hold the knob to the timer shaft? Thanks.

Jay, Based on the model number provided the manufacturer part number for the timer is WP3953146 and our part number which shows compatible with your model is WP3953146

a comment first: great videos, but i noticed in the timer replacement vid, the tech did not replace the knob keeper black plastic lock shaft as he reassembled the unit. oops..im sure its no worries, but i just thought id tell you in case you were a perfectionist...:) My question: What do the letters after timer part number signify? like 3951702 "a", or "e"? important to the application? or just "what factory built", type info. thanks

Hello sopan123. First thank you for the comment. As for the black retainer not being reinstalled, the new timer comes with a new one so there is no need to reinstall the old one. The numbers on the timer are manufacturing and revision numbers and should not apply to the timer working properly in your unit in most cases. Hope this helps.

Rob H. for Model Number LSQ9560PW2

Recently I have started getting a delay when starting my washer. It started out as a few seconds at first from the time I pulled the dial to get it started to the time the water started flowing. Now it has progressed to about a minute or so and when today when the water finally started flowing it started out with a stuttering before flowing good. This only happens on the first wash when the washer is "cold". The second and subsequent starts seem to work fine. I'm hoping this is a timer issue. Is there any other possibility other than the timer?

1 Answer

Hello Rob, This is more likely to be an issue with either the temperature sensor in the water valve WP3979346 or the ATC switch W10168360. It is doubtful that it is a timer issue.
