Jan B for Model Number WTW5540SQ0

Washer works but sometimes will not spin between cycles. I have to turn the basket till it stops and then it will spin for that cycle. I was told it was the timer which I replaced and it was not. It is a top load whirlpool WTW5560SQ0. I am trying to be cost efficient here and I need to fix it correctly but I’m at a loss what to replace next. Per the internet it said timer but now I am finding the clutch may be the problem. I’m not sure if that is within my skill set. Single mom who already broke a nail moving the washer. Thanks for your help, Jan

Answer

Jan, It will be a mechanical issue rather than an electric issue. I believe the clutch would give you a problem every time it spins rather than sometimes. It sounds more like an internal problem in the gearcase. The clutch simply lets the transmission slip as it starts to spin as it gradually picks up speed. This repair would be more intense but we do have a video on our site under the part number. 3360629
