Sat R. for Model Number MAV7580EWW My Maytag washer is 12 years old. Late last year we have noticed that the washer will finish with a tub full of water. It seems the wash only agitate and does not rinse or spin. We have to re-do the rinse and spin to finish the wash. This occurs on any program selected (color, white or delicate). The washer will spin and drain the tub fine and it does agitate. Today I was able to finish a wash by opening and closing the lid which will trigger the next cycle to start in middle of the wash. What I do is open the lid in the middle of the agitate to spin and rinse. When the arrow on the knob reaches the Rinse line I open the lid and close to activate the rinse. Then when the arrow reaches the SPIN white line I open and close the lid again to start the SPIN. This seems to work in order to finish a good wash. Is this a timer switch problem or a switch lid problem. Thank you for your help.
Answer Sat R, Your post information would indicate a failed contact in the timer WP22003499. The contact is not "opening" at the pause portion of the cycle and the motor will continue to agitate, because it can't reverse direction. To remove the timer, first you need to unplug the power cord. Carefully remove the timer knob insert WP22001664 with a small flat blade screwdriver, then remove the locking pin 22002997 using the same method and then slide the knob and skirt off the timer shaft. Remove the three phillipshead screws across the back edge of the control panel and pull the top towards you. Lay the control panel on the top of the washer with a rag under it , and disconnect the wiring harness block from the timer. Remove the one mounting screw and lift the alignment tab with the screwdriver and lift the timer out of the console. Reverse the procedure and test the washer for proper operation and leaks.
