David L Rockville , MD December 02, 2017 Appliance: Model PHE-42US The control panel mounting tabs broke and it fell inside the vent hood Pretty easy job for a DIYer. The control panel gets loose when the plastic tabs break for one reason or the other. You can replace the control board housing without having to replace the control board. Note also that the control board housing comes with a new control overlay label, so you don't need to buy the label like I did. You will need torx screw drivers or torx bit set - two sizes T20 and maybe T15. Start by remove the three metal filters (I replaced mine during this repair as they had gotten damaged in the dishwasher - don't put them in the dishwasher!). Replacing them is not required for the repair. It is not very obvious how to access the control board. remove the two small panels that are left and right of where the filters where - each one is held in place by three small torx screws. Once those are out, you can see the inner panel that runs the width of the hood (this is the panel which holds the lights) is held in place by two screws on each side (may be three on each side). and it fits into grooves in the front edge. Have someone ready to hold the weight of that panel - it is probably 20 lbs and the edges are sharp. I used "3rd hands tools" to hold up. Unscrew it, and slide it to the back a little, it will drop loose. Lower it slowly as there is one wiring connection that has to be unplugged - then it is free. Now you can get a hand into the space where the control board housing is. Unscrew the one screw (it is probably where the broken ear went, but you need to screw the new one there). Makes sure the power is off. Unscrew the 5 Torx screws that hold the control board housing together. Transfer the old control board to the new housing, screw it together, place it inside the hood - one side has a hook, the other end gets a screw - then tighten the screw. Turn the power back on and test it. Replace the long panel with the lights (its a good time to change the bulbs - I installed LED bulbs for a whiter and cooler light). Replace the left and right side panels next to the filters. Replace the filters. Done. Happy. Richard L New York , NY December 04, 2015 Appliance: Thermador Wall Hood PHE36US Control board was jarred loose An appliance repair company, CorJust Enterprises from Long Island, came several times to fix the problem. But not once did their technicians determine that the problem was as simple as getting a new housing box for the control board. They tried other remedies, like pushing the broken control board into place. I wondered: maybe you can buy a new control board housing box, so I looked on the internet, found appliancepros.com had such a box and ordered it. It was easy to install and now all is well. Not only did I get just the right piece, but I saved a few hundred dollars from paying CorJus more service repair fees.
