Those also need to be in the right proportions at different times during engine operation. For instance, when first cranking a cold engine, the choke must be closed to prevent air flow, but then the choke must open to allow airflow as the engine increases speed. The air vane pulls the choke open to allow proper airflow. The air vane is made from plastic. As such, it may degrade over time through exposure to high heat. Eventually, it may crack and break. If the engine does not stay running, it may be due to a damaged air vane that no longer pulls the choke open. Replacing a damaged air vane will require a wrench and a screwdriver. Remove the starter rope, discharge chute, gas tank, and engine shroud. Remove the damaged air vane and replace it with the new one, then reassemble the mower.
