The recoil starter assembly is comprised of the housing, the recoil spring, the starter pulley, the starter rope, and the plastic starter grip. It creates the motion that spins the flywheel to engage the engine. The grip is pulled, which extends the rope and activates the starter spring, which then engages the starter pulley and the flywheel, respectively. Over time, various components of the recoil starter can become damaged or worn with regular use. This is often going to require a replacement and in most cases, it will be easier to replace the entire assembly than a single component. This genuine OEM recoil starter is manufactured by MTD and is made to exact standards. It can be used with more than 150 MTD engines on lawn equipment, including from brands like Craftsman, Bolens, Yard-Man, Yard Machines, Remington, Husky, RYOBI, and Cub Cadet. This replacement assembly includes a limited parts warranty and includes all components: the plastic housing, starter pulley, pull rope, starter grip, and starter spring. The hardware for securing this housing is sold separately.

This OEM starter grip is a replacement for select Briggs & Stratton engines. The starter rope grip provides the handle that is used to pull the starter rope. When it is pulled, the starter recoil spring engages the flywheel puller, which then causes the flywheel to rotate and starts the rotation of the blade as the engine fires. The starter rope grip is made of durable plastic but it can become damaged or cracked over time. If it is broken, the rope will be unable to be pulled to engage the engine until the part is replaced. This is a genuine starter grip designed to work with a variety of lawn and garden equipment that features a Briggs & Stratton engine with a pull-start. The starter grip is sold in two pieces with the grip and a cap that snaps on once the rope has been tied inside of the handle to secure it in place. The unit is sold individually. This item does not include the rope or any additional parts.
This is a starter dog that is located right next to the retainer in many types of lawn and garden equipment. It is made of durable metal. This part is responsible for engaging the recoil starting system on the engine. Sometimes the starter dog can become damaged or worn, which will result in an engine that has trouble starting. In this situation, the starter dog will need to be replaced to ensure the lawn equipment works as expected. If the starter dog needs to be replaced, a pair of pliers will be needed for the process. Place the tool on a level surface and disconnect the spark plug wire. The blade assembly and clutch assembly will need to be removed to get access to the starter dog. Take this part out of the tool and replace it with a quality new component. Reassembly the other parts before use. This is a genuine OEM replacement part that is sourced directly from the manufacturer. It is made to be compatible with lawnmowers, snowblowers, tillers, edgers, and generators manufactured by Tecumseh, Briggs & Stratton, Toro, Cub Cadet, and Craftsman. The starter dog is sold as an individual part.
Also known as a rewind starter, the recoil starter assembly is used on many types of lawn and garden equipment. It is the part that enables the engine to start the combustion process. When the recoil starter is performing properly, the engine can be easily turned on by hand. This is an essential part, and the equipment's motor cannot function without it.A failing recoil starter assembly can be caused by simple wear and tear on the component. If the pull string on the lawn and garden equipment is slack and can't be pulled, the component will need to be replaced. The process involves taking off the recoil housing cap, untying the rope, and re-tensioning the spring. Replace the part and reassemble the rest of the components. This recoil starter assembly is sold on an individual basis. It is a genuine OEM replacement part that is directly sourced from the manufacturer. The assembly is compatible with several lawnmowers, snowblowers, and generators manufactured by Briggs & Stratton, Craftsman, Tecumseh, and Toro.
